Estonia is located on the north-south migration route of migratory birds. Every spring and autumn millions of geese stop in the big fields of Estonia where they feed. Mostly we can meet the following species: Bean goose (Anser fabalis)Greater white-fronted goose (Anser albifrons)Graylag goose (Anser anser)Barnacle goose (Branta leucopsis) Most of these birds are migrating, but a few also nest here. All species mentioned can be hunted as well. Read more

The hunt starts early in the morning, before dawn. The hunt takes place either from layout blinds or blinds where hunters can sit. Positions are always carefully selected day(s) before the hunt, depending on which fields the birds have fed. Decoys are placed just before the start of the hunt to achieve the best possible result. We use the best goose decoys and goose calls to attract birds. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that the success of goose hunting depends on many factors, such as weather conditions, goose migration and the hunter’s shooting skills. If the weather conditions are favorable and the migration of geese is active, it is possible to have about 50 to 100 rounds per gun per day.
Usually 2 to 4 hunters are placed in the same position with approximately 60 – 80 decoys. Morning hunting ends around 10 AM – in the case that birds are not flying anymore. If the weather is good all day, then we end the hunt around 4 PM. |
