Ducks

Anas

Estonia is located in the middle of the northern migration path for millions of ducks. Also here is a very high density of resident ducks. Due to this, the hunt is rich in species Mainly we can meet the following species: Vigeon (Mareca penelope), Gadwall (Mareca strepera) Teal (Anas crecca) Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) Pintail (Anas acuta) Garganey (Anas querquedula) Shovelers (Anas clypeata) Common pochard (Aythya ferina) Tuffed duck (Aythya fuligula) It is good to combine duck hunting with goose hunting in October. Description

The hunting starts early in the morning before dawn. The hunt takes place usually from the wooden platforms which are well covered to avoid the hunter being seen by the ducks. Positions are always carefully selected depending on where the birds feed or what flight corridor they use when flying along the shore and the platforms are well covered with reeds. The decoys are placed just before the start of the hunt to achieve the best possible result. We use the best duck decoys and duck calls to attract birds. Duck hunting takes place in bays on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. The outcome of the hunt depends largely on weather conditions such as wind strength and cloudiness, which force the ducks to fly closer to shore. If the weather conditions are favorable and the migration of ducks is active, it is possible to have about 50 rounds per gun per day. Usually, 2-4 hunters are placed in the same position with approximately 40 – 60 decoys. Morning hunting ends around 10.00 AM, in case birds are not flying anymore. If the weather is good to hunt all day then we will end around 16.00 PM.
