Currently there are over 500 wolves in Estonia. The average weight of a wolf is about 35-45 kilograms, although significantly heavier wolves have been hunted as well. The mating season of the wolves lasts from January to February. The cubs are usually born in April. Wolves reach sexual maturity at 2-3 years of age.

The amount of wolf hunting varies depending on the year; however in recent years the wolf population has been steadily growing and wolf hunting quotas have gone up.
In 2017 more than 100 wolves were hunted.
