Brown Bear

Hunting period: August 1 to October 31

Brown bear (Ursus Arctos)

Currently, more than 800 bears were counted in Estonia, and their number is growing significantly. The mating season lasts from mid May to mid June. Winter dormancy starts in November and lasts until March-April. After the eight months the cubs are born. The cubs are very small their birth weight does not exceed 500 grams.

Bears reach sexual maturity at 3 years of age and have cubs at 4-5 years of age. The Bears have cubs every two years. In Estonia, the weight of an adult bear usually exceeds 200 kilograms.

Bear Hunting

The Bear, with the exception of the bear with cubs can be hunted from August 1 to October 31.The best hunting period is from August to September.

The biggest bear population is found in the Viru distric, where our hunting areas are also located. However, in the rest of Estonia there is a very dense bear population as well.

To have certain guarantees when hunting a bear, some 5 days of hunting are required. In 2017 more than 50 brown bears were hunted.
